Unlike some of their more traditional Alpine neighbours, many of the more recently purpose built French stations de ski can offer the much sought after combination of high altitude snow security and ski-in ski-out convenience, albeit sometimes at a cost to ambience and transfer times.

There are of course exceptions to this – our favourite resorts of Megeve and Morzine being great examples of the more attractive traditional alpine style villages, that also benefit from much shorter transfer times.

Traditional villages for short breaks

There is a varied range of traditional French villages such as Chamonix, Megeve, Morzine and La Clusaz that make great options for ski weekends and mean there is a destination to suit all types of skier. The more flexible hotel accommodation and proximity to the airport make these ideal for a short break.

Huge domains for longer family trips

Vast linked ski domaines such as Les Trois Vallees and Espace Killy make great destinations for longer trips, with enough kilometerage to satisfy any skier for a week. Their high altitude means they are snow sure but can mean a longer trip from the airport. Purpose built ski-in ski-out convenience and great English speaking ski schools also make many of these resorts ideal for families.
